BRaVE Kick-Off on 23 January 2025

On Thursday, 23 January, the time had finally come: the Green Research Network BRaVE (Building Climate Resilience for a Vital Environment) was officially launched with a kick-off event. The 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 President, Prof. Dr. Sabine Doering-Manteuffel, gave a motivating opening speech. All project coordinators, tandem partners and doctoral students met for the first time and discussed the approved sub-projects.

Prof. Dr Sabine Doering-Manteuffel emphasised the importance of the Centre for Climate Resilience for the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏's sustainability strategy. Prof. Dr Axel Tuma, Commissioner for Green Transformation, explained how the 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏 of Augsburg's sustainability agenda is being implemented not only in the core areas of research and teaching, but also through a sustainably designed campus. The university's placement in the international GreenMetric Ranking 2024, in which it emerged as the frontrunner among around 300 newcomers with the ‘Best New Participating 伟德国际_伟德国际1946$娱乐app游戏’ award, was an outstanding success.
Prof. Tuma then presented the objectives of BRaVE, which is an integral part of the university's sustainability network. The key elements are the development of interdisciplinary methods to identify climate-related vulnerabilities, the derivation of indicators for the early detection of risks, and the development of sustainable solutions for risk reduction – BRaVE: Identification of Vulnerabilities, Indicators and Implications for Actions.
In his speech, Prof. Dr Harald Kunstmann warned of the climate risks that have become apparent from the extreme weather events of recent years and 2024, the year in which the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement was permanently exceeded for the first time. In reference to Albert Schweitzer, Prof. Kunstmann encouraged the doctoral researchers to be “BRaVE” and build bridges between disciplines to create more climate resilience.
